Geotechnical Grading, Monitoring, and Testing for Qantas Hangar Construction (2015-2017)
The project consisted of massive grading operations for a large area located on the west end of the airport and grading for a large-span hangar for Qantas Airline, with a footprint of about 120,000 square feet. The grading work included raising the existing natural grade to the designated elevation by placing and compacting up to 30 feet of earth materials.
GAI performed as the geotechnical engineer of record (GEOR) for the “Qantas Hangar” project at LAX. We monitored the grading work and performed daily field testing, as well as engineering and laboratory services. GAI also performed materials testing on PCC pavement for taxiways and the slabs for the hangar area, subjected to loads of super aircraft.
